Buzzer's Duke
Date: 02/08/2000 (Excerpts from, Buzzer and
Duke, a post on the message board)
Well here it goes.
This is what started out to be a great story. Some time back I got the hog hunting
bug and it hit me hard. I've heard there is no cure for it yet. Anyway I
started doing some research on how to and then where to and then the dog research. this is where it started.
. . .
I have a family and am on a budget so a
Dogo was out of my reach but was willing to save even if it took a while to get one of these dogs
I went everywhere asking info I even emailed
with Dogoman when he had his pups. I was always honest in saying I wanted a pup but was on a tight budget if
they could still give me some info and Dogoman,
Trapper and GD were some of the ones that did.
Trapper and GD said come on down and see what these dogs can do. so I did and another bug bit me
I got Dogo fever. I've also heard there is no cure for that one either. what luck.
I asked GD if he had any pups to sell and he did not, but had an older male
that we could work out a deal with and he knew up front that I was a tight wad.
But he would work with me then one day I logged on wild boar chat and caught the ending of a conversation between
GD and another fellow hunter. They were discussing a Dogo rescue placement and he explained to me how rescue worked,
I told him id be interested in one. he said great if he knew of one he would let me know. time went by
I hunted with them and one day I got and email from him he said there was a
Dogo in California that needed to be rescued so
I called Liz, the dog rescue lady and Alan.
I had to get him quick cause Alan was goin out on a trip. the airlines would not ship him
and the one that did wanted my two arms and a leg. I started thinking and then all of a sudden
I remembered my in-laws live in California. So I called my wife and said: babe you want to go spend xmas in
California. Her first question was what are you getting a Dogo? I said
yes! Then she said merry xmas you do know that is what you are getting this year right?
And boy was I glad.
Anyway, I made arrangements with my brother in law to
pick duke up while we drove up there that way Alan could go on his trip.
I got him down here and started working with him. First to walk without pulling
my arm out. He was a little to happy to be out here. We have a big lot ,1.2 acres
and he loves it plus I have a lot behind that is 15 acres and 4 empty lots to our sides so he has a place to run and
do all that stuff. So now he heels sits and comes of leash he still needs to be worked with but he is
doing great.
Like I said he likes water and his manners are improving.
He is a little jealous of the old lab she is a retired bird hunter that has the run of the house.
My wife, the marathon runner, is not running now due to an injury, but as soon as she is ready to
start Duke will go along. Well the is the beginning of our duke story. I would like to thank All the people who made
this possible you know who you are I do not type out all your names cause
I will feel bad to leave someone out. Oh and I do plan to vest him and collar him.
And he will not go out on his own until he is ready. for now he will be a lead catch dog. I might have left some details out but as
I write more I will remember.
